Although the IPL has been harsh to bowlers since its inception, few bowlers have stood up to the task and troubled opposition batsmen. These quality bowlers are a rare breed, and franchisees often have to break the bank to acquire their services.

A majority of these bowlers come from foreign countries, and many teams have opted to utilise 2 of their four overseas slots to accommodate premium bowlers.

Here I take a look at the 5 overseas bowlers with most wickets in in IPL history:

5. Kagiso Rabada – 99 wickets

Kagiso Rabada Delhi Capitals

Kagiso Rabada, in IPL, has the best strike rate for any bowler who has more than 25 wickets. His strike rate is lower than 14.5, which is a phenomenal effort for someone who has around 100 wickets. Find out how to calculate the bowling strike rate and average in this article.

Having only played 63 games to pick 99 wickets, he will, for sure, better Malinga’s record for the fastest to 100 IPL wickets in the next season.

4. Rashid Khan – 112 Wickets

Rashid Khan’s story in IPL is an inspiring one. It would be true if I say the young bowler from Afghanistan has changed the fate of Afghan cricketers altogether. The Afghani leg spinner has the better economy rate for any bowler who has picked more than 8 wickets in the tournament, topping the most economical bowler in the IPL list.

Rashid Khan, who was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad side for 5 years, since his debut in 2017 and recently moved to Lucknow Super Giants. The mystery leg spinner has a phenomenal consistency of 15+ wickets in every season.

3. Sunil Narine: 152 wickets

Sunil Narine will go down as one of the IPL greats. The mystery spinner has been a one-team man for KKR and has been their go-to bowler since his debut in 2012. The Trinidadian bowler crossed the 20-wicket mark in 3 consecutive seasons from 2012 to 2014.

His wicket-taking ability has been on the vain since his change in action, but he’s still quite economical. Just like Watson, Narine has also won the Most Valuable Player award twice in his IPL career. He is also one of our MVP Award contender for IPL 2020.

2. Lasith Malinga: 170 wickets

Lasith Malinga has been the best bowler in IPL history. Forget overseas bowlers, Slinga is the second-highest wicket-taker in the competition’s history. He has played 25 matches lesser than Amit Mishra (3rd) but still has 13 more wickets.

The Sri Lankan legend has spent his whole career at Mumbai Indians and holds several bowling records. In 2011, Malinga had an unbelievable campaign as the purple cap winner took 28 wickets at an economy rate of 5.95 and a brilliant strike rate.

1. Dwayne Bravo: 183 wickets

Dwayne Bravo, the West Indian medium pacer is the leading wicket-taker in the IPL history. The all-rounder has been sensational for Chennai Super Kings. With 32 and 26 wickets in 2013 and 2015, respectively, Bravo has 2 purple caps to his credit.

DJ Bravo has also played MI and GL, and the specialist death bowler has been lethal with the ball wherever he has played. He holds the record for most wickets taken in a single season (32).
