5 Shots that shaped up Brian Lara’s batting

THE FIERCE PULL

This had always been a surprising shot from Lara.

It racks one’s mind ‘How can someone hit the ball so hard while playing the pull shot?

Especially with his backlift pointing in the offside, how could it be possible to roll the bat face so quickly to make the pull shot?

Well, it involved different technical answers.

Shuffle

  • The early back and across shuffle from his legs got his shoulder ready to extend his hands.
  • The body positioning, combined with flexibility, was a major factor here in getting the ball precisely to his right shoulder or further leg to execute the pull.

Back lift

  • His backlift was wide, and it is also on the offside. So it was easy to swing the bat along the leg side.
  • He had to roll the wrist in a full range to bring the bat’s face from the point to the midwicket region, which had been a natural gift for the Trinidadian.

Hard-hitting

  • When you try to hit the ball harder, your bat speed automatically increases with the bat swing.
  • Eventually, his quick hands helped him in producing effective pull shots.
