Another humdinger of a game that went to the match’s final ball with four required to win off the final delivery. Mumbai Indians won the toss and sent Chennai Super Kings out to bat. Mumbai Indians came into this match as the underdogs as they had never won the IPL yet, but their opponents had already won the competition twice.
This match was a relatively high scoring affair. Many CSK batsmen got off to good starts, but none could convert their 30s and 40s into a big half-century or even a century. Chennai rode on useful contributions from Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, and MS Dhoni to post a sub-par 173/8 in 20 overs.
Mumbai lost their first wicket early, but their past (Sachin) and present (Rohit) combined well and put together a 126-run stand, which was immense as far as the game’s outcome was concerned. After a flurry of wickets, Dwayne Smith’s cameo of 22(9) saw Mumbai cross the line in nail-biting circumstances.
