5. Michael Clarke (Australia) – 329* vs India (Sydney, 2012)
Michael Clarke has been the inspirational leader for Australia in Test Cricket. Along with his captaincy, he is also considered one of the most creative batsmen in Test cricket. The middle-order batsman scored 8643 runs in 115 Test matches with 28 hundred to his name in Test cricket. It was very difficult to cement his place as a middle-order batsman in that elite batting lineup of Australia under Ricky Ponting, but he made his place and later became captain of the Australian Test team.
In the second Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2012, Michael Clarke came to the crease after three early wickets of Australia on the score of 37. He played an enormous inning as the Aussie skipper scored 329 runs and gave Australia enough lead to come back in the game. His 468-balls knock comprised 39 fours and one six. He made a match-winning partnership with Ricky Ponting, who scored 134, and Michael Hussey, who remained not out, along with the skipper with a score of 150. Then Australia declared and won the game by an innings and 68 runs.
